After upgrading to Ubuntu 12.04, Evernote client running on Wine cannot connect to server. The server closes the TCP connection after the client sends the ssl client hello. Because Evernote is critical to me, I decided to try the workaround (utilize libssl 0.9.8) in winehq.
Fortunately, the workaround works fine under Japanese environment. I mean Japanese characters are not garbled. I did not touch regedit to modify font related registry such FontLink this time.
The ssl connection problem has been fixed in Wine 1.5.17. Please refer to the related post too. [Nov 13 2012]

What a great and helpful post. I followed your instructions for Evernote, but using the latest version of wine. Everything workd like a charm except for the short cut generated. I get the Evernote icon, and a seperate page called ‘link’. Neither work
The fonts are ugly-not sure if there is anything that can be done about that?
